1. "Come riddle this, Father; come riddle this, Mother ;
Come riddle this all to me, Whether I shall marry Fair Eleanor Or bring the brown girl home."
2. "The brown girl she has house and lot;
Fair Eleanor she has none; Before I'd marry Fair Eleanor
I'd bring the brown girl home." |

3. "Come riddle this, Father; come riddle this, Mother;
Come riddle this all to me, Whether I shall go to Lord Thomas's wedding Or whether I'll stay at home."
4. "At home, at home you have your friends;
And there you know you have none; Before I'd go to Lord Thomas's wedding I'd rather stay at home."
5. She dressed herself in scarlet silk,
And around her waist was green ;18 And every city that she rode through They took her to be some queen.
6. She rode and she rode till she came to the gate,
And raddled19 all on the ring, And none so ready as Lord Thomas To rise and welcome her in.
7. He took her by the lily-white hand
And led her through the hall; Then he set her down at the head of the table, The fairest one of all |
